Rick, Chris and Yemisi, I read with interest your responses to the questions posed in assignment #1. It seems we respond similarly when asked to make decisions. We weigh costs and benefits, look for good or realistic options, like to limit constraints or restrainsts that might impact an effective decision, assess issues/problems from a situational perspective weighing perceived consequences, and rely both on our analytical thinking and our intuition.

I thought your default examples were interesting in that you all seemed to be leaning toward the benefits of a default particularly if it is one of the choices we could potentially make. I saw the default option as removing choice and making life less complicated, though the default choice may not be the best one for a given indivisual.

Regarding the current economic crisis, it looks, again, as if out thinking was similar. Those involved focused and choice their own material good rather than the common good. I thought Chris’ comment about making rational choices based on a flawed model was excellent. Rick, your suggestion that rationality is based on the goal was interesting.
